Central Beliefs and Values

FORGE strives to create a world where ALL voices, people and bodies are valued, respected, honored, and celebrated; where every individual feels safe, supported, respected, and empowered.

Their work focuses around the following four central beliefs:

  1. A belief that trans people and loved ones are resilient (but may still benefit from some reminders and skills);
  2. A belief that service providers have the profession-specific skills they need to serve trans people, but simply need additional trans-specific knowledge and confidence;
  3. A belief that EVERY person is valuable and has a great deal to contribute to society; and
  4. A belief that binary systems and thinking create arbitrary lines between people and communities, which damage spirits and resilience.

EQUALITY MICHIGAN

 https://equalitymi.org/victim-services/

The Department of Victim Services (DVS) at EQMI provides dedicated survivor-centered services to LGBTQ, SGL, and individuals living with HIV who have experienced violence, discrimination, and harassment. EQMI DVS works to increase self-determination, safety, and power for people who have been harmed.

Our support and advocacy services are directed to work with LGBTQ, SGL, and HIV-affected people experiencing various forms of violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault, hate violence, harassment, and discrimination. We work to center the needs of people who have been harmed and, as advocates, we know our role is to support them however that takes shape. Therefore, our services are survivor-centric and tailored to the specific needs of each person.
