SACI E-Board

Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention (SACI) Team is a registered student organization comprised of undergraduate and graduate students as well as community-member volunteers who are active in the movement against gendered violence. SACI members have been trained to provide advocacy to survivors of sexual violence. Members can be trained to help staff our 24-hour crisis line, 10am – 10pm crisis chat, and safe spaces around campus. The group works with the MSU Sexual Assault Program to provide support, empathy, and information to survivors of gendered violence. SACI delivers assistance to those who have been traumatized by sexual assault and coordinates programs that focus on awareness and prevention. To find out more information regarding volunteers opportunities please visit our Volunteering page!

SACI’s outreach activities include providing safe spaces for events on and around campus and going to resource fairs to spread the word about the MSU Sexual Assault Program. SACI is also involved in Take Back the Night, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and MSU It’s On Us Fall and Spring Week of Action.

PRESIDENT

Hi everyone! My name is Katie and I am a junior at MSU with a double major in Comparative Cultures and Politics and Anthropology with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. I started volunteering with SACI in the spring of 2018 and look forward to working on creating a supportive and inclusive healing environment for survivors at MSU. Outside of SACI, I work for the Prevention, Outreach, and Education Department as a Peer Educator to underclassmen to facilitate discussions about sexual assault, relationship violence, and bystander intervention. Additionally, I have worked with on-campus activist groups such as Reclaim MSU to push for accountability and transparency from the administration. Upon graduating from MSU, I look forward to pursuing a Masters in Gender Studies/Violence to work on addressing social issues that involve sexual violence in particular. In my free time, I like to binge watch the Office, play with my cat, and listen to music.

TREASURER

Hello! My name is Dia and I am going to be serving as treasurer for to 2019-2020 SACI E-Board. I am super excited and grateful for my new position. This will be my second year as a member of SACI and my third year as an MSU student. I am currently majoring in Social Work with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. I decided to become a part of SACI because of its close alignment with what I want to do in the future and the fact that this is the type of work that needs to be done. There is a need for survivors to be heard and represented in the community and I am happy to be a part of fulfilling that need. Aside from SACI, I am an anime fanatic (Sailor Moon is my all-time favorite) who loves anything cute and pink. I love to laugh with my friends about silly things, but I also enjoy a good debate about serious issues within society. I would describe myself as a bit weird overall but still a great person to be around. I enjoy bringing people together and seeing smiles on everyone’s faces.

Outside of SACI, I will also be working as a SARV Peer Educator for the 2019-2020 school year, and I volunteer for the Read to Succeed program in Lansing. Outside of school and volunteering, I enjoy hammocking, drinking way too much coffee, and trying my best to do my part in saving the environment.
